JAMMU, Nov 21: The Inter Battalion Sports Tournament-2016 which was started on November 9, 2016 concluded in an impressive function held at Police Sports Stadium, Gulshan Ground here this evening.
Over 500 sportspersons including women players, representing 31 Battalions of IRP and Armed Police participated in this 13-day long Tournament.
Addressing a large gathering, Additional Director General of Police Armed (ADGP), L Mohanti said that JKP has been playing a prime role in the promotion of sports culture in the State, adding the Force, besides its professional duties has been focussing on the promotion of sports which is proving instrumental in channelizing the energy of the youth and cultivate talent.
Stressing upon the youth to avail opportunities provided by the Organization, he said that the sports activities are pivotal, not only for maintaining physical health but also enhances mental capabilities of the sportspersons.
He said that the department has framed a sports calendar to organize sport activities in different cities and towns across the State. Such activities have also helped to strengthen police-public relations, which is a healthy sign for the development of the society, he added.
ADGP appreciated the effors of Organizing Committee, headed by IGP Yoginder Koul and Nodal Officer, Mohan Lal and their entire team for conducting the Tournament in a well organized manner.
Earlier, the IGP, IRP, Jammu Zone, who was the Chairman of the Tournament, Yoginder Koul threw light and brliefed about the events played during Tournament at different venues. He said the sports persons and athletes expiated their talent in various disciplines.
On the occasion, Mr. Mohanti distributed trophies and prizes among the winning teams and athletes. He congratulated the winners and asked them to refine their talent for other competitions.
Among others, the concluding function was attended by DIG, Armed, Alok Kumar, AIGPs, Dr. Hassib Mughal, Sheikh Junaid and Javaid Ahmed Koul, SO to ADGP, Mohammad Yasin Kichloo, Sports Officer APHQ, Jigmet Lhundhup, (Asstt: Nodal Officer), Sandeep K. Mehta, all COs of Armed/IRP Bns, DySPs, Junaid Wali, Aman Thakur and Jeetan Ji Mattoo, Sports Incharge, Daljeet Singh and other police officers.
IRP 17th Bn emerges as overall winners of the championship.
