JAMMU, Sept 25: Mukteshi Sharma and Rahul Kumar both from Government College for Women (GCW), Parade, bagged first and second prizes respectively in the Semi Classical Vocal (Solo) competition, organized by the Department of Students Welfare, University of Jammu at Brig Rajinder Singh Auditorium, as part of ongoing ‘Display Your Talent 2012-13’, here today.
Akash Priya from Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar bagged third prize in the competition. Certificate of merit went to Diksha Kumari from Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu.
Mukteshi Sharma presented “Tappa” in “Raga Bhairvi”. The “Bandish” was “Lal -Wala Joban” Kis Des ti Rehnda”, while Rahul Kumar presented “Thumri” in Raga “Khamaj” and the “Bandish” was “Re Ab Maan Jayoo Sainyan, Ab Parun Main Tere Payeean”.
It May be mentioned here that the major styles associated with the Semi-Classical are “Thumari”, “Dadra”, “Tappa”, “Kajari”, “Chaiti” and “Sawani” etc.
Veena Gupta, Sunaina Kaul and Nand Kishore Pal, were the experts for the Semi Classical Vocal (Solo) while Dr Meghana Dhar, was the Teacher Incharge who acquainted the participants with the Rules and Regulations for the event.
The programme was compeered by Anshu Bala. Joint Secretary, Students Cultural Council.
Prof NK Tripathi, Dean Students Welfar and Dr Vishva Raksha, NSS, Programme Coordinator, University of Jammu, distributed the prizes.
Prof Jasbir Singh, Chairman, Campus Cultural Committee and Prof Anurag Gangal, were also present on this occasion.
The event was managed by Nidhi Kaila, Secretary, Students Cultural Council, Harmeet Kour and Divya Mahajan, Joint Secretaries, SCC.
