Benia of J&K Police lifts 28th Majalta Dangal title

UDHAMPUR, June 26: Wrestler Benia Min, a cop of J&K Police and resident of Basantgarh in district Udhampur lifted 28th Majalta Dangal title by defeating wrestler Sunil Chotiwale of Virender Arya Akhara Haryana in the 1st bout that lasted for 22 minutes.
The Dangal was organized by Majalta Dangal Committee in collaboration with J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association under the overall supervision of president, J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association, Shiv Kumar Sharma, Numberdar Tara Mani, Lochan Singh and Prem Nath at Government Girls Middle School, Majalta.
Joint Secretary, J&K State Sports Council, Shiv Kumar Sharma, who was the chief guest on the occasion, distributed cash prizes among the wrestlers. SHO Majalta, Ashiq Hussain Bukhari, who is a former National volley ball player and Naresh Kumar were the guests of honour.
Winner of 1st bout, wrestler Benia Min, was awarded a cash prize of Rs 31,000 along with Gurj (Gadda) and Patta by Shiv Kumar Sharma, Ashiq Bukhari, Lochan Singh and Numberdar, Tara Mani while runner-up wrestler, Sunil, got Rs 20,000.
A total of 39 bouts were played in the Dangal and an expenditure of Rs 1, 80,000 was incurred for conduct of this one day long wrestling competition.
The 2nd main bout was won by Bhupinder of Ajnala in Punjab who defeated Kapil of UP. The winner Bhupinder was awarded with a cash prize of Rs 15,000 while runner-up Kapil got Rs 10,000. Third bout was won by Ishaq (Lallu) of Bajrangi Akhara, Jammu who defeated Gopi of Ajnala. Fourth bout was won by Vikas of Delhi who defeated Nisar of Doda.
Wrestler Amir Khan of Nargada Patha Dheeraj NIS Wrestling Coach of Bajrangi Akhara Jammu was declared as best wrestler of the Dangal. He was awarded with a cash prize Rs 500 along with Mata Ki Chunni by Shiv Kumar Sharma.
Other Results: Altaf Guru of Hanuman Akhara Delhi beat Salman of Chopra Shop Udhampur, Sachin of Delhi thrashed Laikat Ali of Panthal, Kala Nag of Banaras beat Chinni of Jammu, Subash of Chopra Shop beat Sarwere of UP, Amir Khan of Bajrangi Akhara Jammu thrashed Amit of Delhi, Herbind of Banaras defeated Vijay of Bai Bajalta, Chini of Banaras beat Anayat of Manwal and Tinku of Rohtak thrashed Murad Ali of Domana Akhara, Jammu. The bout played between Talab of Mallerkotla and Altaf of Delhi ended in a draw due to rain.
