GDC Thannamandi organizes symposium on communal harmony

JAMMU, Dec 9: Govt Degree College Thannamandi organized an Inter-Institution Symposium on the topic “Communal Harmony”.
Students of seven institutions participated in the symposium and the participating Schools included GDC Thannamandi, MET Higher Secondary School, Govt Boys Higher Secondary School Thannamandi, Govt Girls Higher Secondary School Thannamandi, Govt Higher Secondary Planghar and Govt Higher Secondary School Saj participated in the symposium.
SDPO Thannamandi Jb. Iftkhar Talib was chief guest on the occasion and Principal of the College, Dr. Shakeel Ahmed Raina presided over the function.
In college category, 1st position in symposium was bagged by Sajid Javaid and 2nd place was clinched by Sana Afzal whereas 3rd position was shared by Farhad Afzal, Razia Dar and Arafat Nazam.
In school category, Zahid Qayoom of Hr Sec School Saaj won Ist position whereas 2nd & 3rd positions were bagged by Sehrish Shakoor of MET Thannamandi and Nighat Ara of Girls Hr Sec School Plangarh respectively.
Iftikhar Talib delivered a very thought provoking speech stressing upon the need of the communal harmony in the present scenario.
In his presidential address, Dr Shakeel Ahmed Raina said that present is the era of interdependence where no one can live in isolation, adding that people should learn the art of living together.
Earlier, the programme started with the recitation of few verses of the Holy Quran by Abdul Raouf.
Prof. Saleem Ayaz Rather presented the welcome address, while Prof. Junad Jazib and Lecturer Sajjad Ahmed conducted proceedings of the programme. Formal vote of thanks was presented by Prof Sankait Gupta.
Dr Naim-Un-Nisa, Lecturer Nazir Ahmed and Lecturer Mohd Yasser were the judges of the symposium.
