KISHTWAR, Sept 7: Minister of State for PWD (R&B) and Revenue Sunil Kumar Sharma inaugurated a mega one day 3rd district level science exhibition under Inspire award being organized by District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) Kishtwar at Government Higher Secondary School here today.
The students of different Government as well as private educational institutions of the district displayed 180 science exhibits on themes like water harvesting, Flood alarm system, disaster management, solar power plant, bio pesticides, lift irrigation, global warming, soil conservation, waste management etc.
The Minister inspected all the models displayed by the students and interacted with the students asking them various questions relating to technicality and applicability of such models. On the occasions students studying in far flung areas presented various demands before the Minister including auditorium at Kishtwar, staff shortage, accommodation, Library and laboratory and toilet facilities.
While addressing the students, Sharma said that the real aim of the department of Science and Technology behind organizing such exhibitions is to encourage and enhance scientific temperament among students at a very early stage.
Responding to the demand of auditorium, the Minister informed that Rs 3 crore have already been allocated for the purpose and the work on it will be started soon. The Government has taken several initiatives like sanctioning of 480 crore for road projects, 16 crore for black topping of local roads besides pending dues of teachers have been cleared with the release of Rs 138 crore by HRD Ministry, he added.
Under Secondary level GHS Kungwari Palmar was adjudged 1st for the project on seismography while as Islamia Faridya High School Kishtwar and Green Model High School Kishtwar were adjudged 2nd and 3rd respectively. In Elementary school category, the first position went to MS Bhoopnagar for Hydroelectric project whereas 2nd and 3rd positions to MS Kandani Drabshalla and GMS Nagsani respectively.
Principal DIET Kishtwar, Gyan Chand congratulated all the winners and informed that the 10 best models will compete at divisional level from where the winners will be selected for the state and national levels.
