LEH, Sept 3: State Level Inter District Under-17 girls Volleyball Tournament was lifted by Udhampur district by defeating district Reasi in straight sets ( 25-05 and 25-13) at Indoor Stadium, here today.
Organized by the Department of Youth Services & Sports, a total of 14 girls teams drawn from Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh region participated in the 3-day district level tournament. The girls of Samba defeated Badgam district to clinch the third position earlier.
The Chief Executive Councilor LAHDC, Leh Rigzin Spalbar who was chief guest on the closing day function congratulated the winning team in particular and all the young girls coming from Jammu and Kashmir region for participating in the tournament at Leh and said that until and unless any game is played in the true spirit of sportsmanship the purpose of sport is meaningless. He said that the purpose of sports is not only to make people physically fit but to develop unity, teamwork, brotherhood and most importantly to make sportspersons mentally tough.
Speaking on the occasion, Jajangir Mir, Director General Youth Services and Sports said that besides promoting sports in every district of the State, the main purpose of organizing this tournament at Leh was to give a platform to the students for interaction.
The Executive Councillor for Tourism, LAHDC, Leh Lassu Shafi, Azhar Hajini Publicity Officer YSS and other district level officers were present on the occasion.
A colorful cultural programme by the students of Sidarth High School Stok and Girls Higher Secondary School was also presented on the occasion.
