Baramulla, Sept 3: With a motive to encourage sports culture, a two-day limited over cricket tournament for deaf and mute boys was conducted in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district by Army today.
A defence spokesman said that the matches of the tournament were played at Showkat Ali Stadium in the district. “A total four teams from different districts of Valley participated in the tournament which include Baramulla, Pulwama , Anantnag and Budgam,” he said.
The final match of the tournament was played today between Anantnag and Pulwama and the Pulwama emerged as victorious. “Ghulam Ahmad Bhat of Pulwama was declared as man of the series. Several prominent personalities from Baramulla town both civil & military and members of J&K cricket association for the deaf were present on the occasion,” the spokesman said.
He said in order to provide these teams with assistance and encourage budding talents, the Army’s 46 Rashtriya Rifles Unit provided cricket kits and other administrative help for the tournament.
“This tournament provided a major opportunity to the specially-abled boys of the Valley to compete and also motivated them to face the challenges,” the spokesman added.
