NEW DELHI, Feb 16: Taking up the developmental issues of his Parliamentary constituency Member Parliament from Ladakh Thupstan Chhewang called on Sarbananda Sonowal, Minister of State (IC) for Youth Affairs and Sports and caught his attention towards the crucial issues in related to the infrastructure facilities for youth and sports developments.
Despite of oral representation given by MP Thupstan Chhewang to the Minister he has also submitted his DO letter which complained that the Ladakh region of Jammu & Kashmir State has been neglected in the matter of providing infrastructure facilities to promote various sporting activities in the strategically important border districts of Leh and Kargil. Catching the personal attention of the Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports in releasing the pending funds his letter highlighted the three major projects of Leh and Kargil. MP Ladakh has reproduced the “Draft Project Report of Construction of Ice Hockey Rink at Kurbathang Kargil to the Minister and explained as the work on project has already been started and an expenditure of Rs. 9.54 crore incurred under funds available under award of Special Task Force. “An amount of Rs. 3797.42 lacs required for its completion needs to be provided by the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Government of India”, MP Ladakh demanded.
The Major projects pertaining to the Ministry which are under various stages of construction in Leh District which require to be taken up on priority are Multipurpose Indoor Hall sanctioned at a cost of Rs. 7.9 crore under PYKKA now redesigned as RGKA – a sum of Rs.1.80 crore already released. Remaining 6 crore to be released in installments. Open Stadium and Youth Hostel sanctioned at a cost of Rs.20 crore – 18 crore for open Stadium and 2 crore for Youth Hostel. Rs. 5 crore stands released. Ice Hockey Rink project sanctioned at cost of Rs.10 crore. Rs. 1 crore released under 13th finance Commission.
Requesting for the appropriate actions of the Minister MP Thupstan Chhewang appraised that the winter sports and games are gaining in popularity in Ladakh region and both young boys and Girls are performing extremely well at Nation and International levels also in Ice Hockey and other Winter Sports. “It is therefore necessary that Govt. of India pay attention by creating necessary infrastructures and also early completion of these facilities which will provide incentive and encouragements to the players of mountainous region of Ladakh, Thupstan Chhewang in a meeting with Sarbananda Sonowal at New Delhi on Monday.
