JAMMU, June 1: The Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS), District Jammu, organized Inter-Zonal District Level Competitions in Cricket, Volleyball and Handball, providing a vibrant platform for young athletes to showcase their sporting talent and competitive spirit.
The Inter-Zonal District Level Volleyball competitions for Under-14 and Under-17 girls and Handball competition for Under-17 girls were conducted at MA Stadium Jammu and SD Sabha School, Rehari, Jammu. Simultaneously, the Inter-Zonal District Level Cricket competition for Under-14 boys was held at Khel Gaon Nagrota.
The events witnessed enthusiastic participation from various zones of Jammu district. To ensure the smooth conduct of the competitions, DYSSO Jammu constituted Technical, Medical, Registration and Equipment Committees. The technical committee comprised Sandeepan Sharma, Rajesh Choudhary, Vikram Dogra, Anil Dogra, Sunil Dogra, Mausmi, Priya, Naresh Kumar, Jagjeet Singh, Amit Sharma, Mulkh Raj, Taran Pal Singh, Ravinder Sethi, Harjot Khour, Rekha Devi, Shubham, Jyoti Sharma and Aarti Thakur, besides other officials of the department.
In the Handball Under-14 girls’ category, Zone Gandhi Nagar secured a place in the final after defeating Zone RS Pura by 8-4 goals in the first semi-final. In the second semi-final, Zone Satwari outplayed Zone Jammu by 5-2 goals to advance to the title clash.
In the Handball Under-17 girls’ competition, Zone RS Pura emerged victorious over Zone Satwari by 4-1 goals in the first semi-final. The second semi-final saw Zone Jammu register an impressive 6-2 victory against Zone Gandhi Nagar to book their berth in the final.
The Volleyball Under-17 girls’ competition produced several one-sided contests. Zone Dansal defeated Zone Jammu 2-0 in sets, while Zone Bhalwal overcame Zone Bishnah by the same margin. Zone Satwari also recorded a 2-0 win over Zone Jourian. Continuing their dominant run, Zone Dansal defeated Zone Bishnah 2-0 and later outclassed Zone Bhalwal 2-0. In another match, Zone Chowki Choura defeated Zone Satwari by 2-0 sets.
In the Volleyball Under-14 girls’ category, Zone Khour defeated Zone Gandhi Nagar by 2-0 in sets. Zone Akhnoor registered a convincing 2-0 victory over Zone Miran Sahib, while Zone Chowki Choura also won comfortably against Zone Jourian by 2-0 sets.
Meanwhile, in the Cricket Under-14 boys’ competition at Khel Gaon Nagrota, Zone Miran Sahib defeated Zone Akhnoor by 31 runs. Batting first, Miran Sahib scored 71 runs in 11.3 overs before being bowled out. In reply, Zone Akhnoor managed only 40 runs in 10.1 overs, handing Miran Sahib a comprehensive victory.
