RAJOURI, May 22: The 14-year-old Mohammad Yasser, who created history by becoming the first boxer from the Union Territory to win a gold medal in the Under-15 Asian Boxing Championship held at Tashkent, received a grand welcome on his return to Rajouri.
Yasseer, along with his coach Ishtiyaq Malik, was accorded a warm reception by locals and supporters during his journey back home. MLA Kalakote Thakur Randhir Singh also welcomed the young champion at Sunderbani, where a large number of people gathered to congratulate him and celebrate his remarkable success.
Later, a grand reception was organised in Rajouri town in honour of Yasser and his coach. Youth, sports enthusiasts and citizens participated enthusiastically in the event, terming his achievement historic and an inspiration for the younger generation. Speakers expressed hope that his success would motivate more youth to take up sports and achieve excellence at national and international levels.
Meanwhile, KB Public Higher Secondary School also organised a special felicitation ceremony under the ongoing “Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan” to honour the young boxing sensation. The programme was attended by Chairman Arshad Ali Choudhary, General Secretary Sadiq Azad, Director Dr. Nazia Ahmed Choudhary, Principal Nehreer Khan, staff members and students.
On the occasion, the Chairman felicitated Yasser with a cash prize, scholarship support and a memento in recognition of his outstanding achievement. The dignitaries praised his dedication, discipline and perseverance despite his humble background. They described his success as a beacon of inspiration for youth and highlighted the role of sports in steering youngsters away from drugs and social evils under the message of Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan.
