Zone Jib boys inter-school sports meet held

UDHAMPUR, May 7: The Department of Youth Services and Sports, Udhampur, Zone Jib, inaugurated an inter-school zonal-level sports tournament for Under-14 and Under-17 boys in line with the 2026-27 sports calendar.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students of various Government and private schools in Athletics, Karate, Judo, Wushu, Boxing and Taekwondo. The competitions were conducted under the supervision of Zonal Physical Education Officer Zone Jib Jyoti Rani Gupta.
Addressing the gathering, she declared the meet open and motivated the young athletes to compete with discipline, dedication and sportsmanship. A major highlight of the event was the collective pledge taken by 379 students from 29 schools under the Nasha Mukt Bharat campaign, marking 100 days of Nasha Mukt Abhiyan. The participants pledged to promote a drug-free society and spread awareness against substance abuse.
Technical selection of players was carried out by Ajit Singh Bandral and Sanjay Sharma (PEMs), who identified promising talent across disciplines based on speed, strength and skills.
In Judo, Sumit Kumar and Vikram Kumar (MS Sounthan), Sourab Sharma (HS Laddan) and Tarun Thakur (Upper Thanoa) secured top positions. In Boxing, Abhimanyu, Arpan and Prashant (AOC) performed well. In Taekwondo and Karate, Amit Sharma, Sahil Sharma and Keshav Kumar dominated. In Wushu, Mohd Akram and Munir Mohd stood out. In Athletics, Rajat Malgotra, Rohit Kumar, Sameer Khan, Kaniya Khajuria, Sunil and Kapil Singh won their respective events.
