DG YSS inaugurates district-level competitions

SRINAGAR, May 7: Director General of Youth Services and Sports (YSS), J&K, Anuradha Gupta today inaugurated the Inter-School District-Level Competitions-cum-Selection Trials in fencing and archery at the Youth Hostel Wazir Bagh here.
The competitions are being organised under the ongoing anti-drug campaign, Nasha Mukt J&K Abhiyaan, by the District Youth Services and Sports Office Srinagar.
The inaugural ceremony began with an anti-drug pledge administered by the DG YSS in the presence of Joint Director YSS Kashmir Mohammad Rashid Kohli, District Youth Services and Sports Officer Srinagar Ghulam Hassan Lone and other senior officials.
Students from various schools across Srinagar are participating in the competitions in Under-14, Under-17 and Under-19 categories for both boys and girls.
Addressing the participants, Gupta urged students to make effective use of the sporting opportunities being provided by the department and contribute towards building a drug-free society.
She said sports play an important role in keeping youth physically fit and mentally strong while discouraging substance abuse.
Officials said more than 400 students are expected to participate in the competitions, which are scheduled to conclude on May 12.
