JAMMU, Apr 14: Satwant Kaur Dogra, Provincial President, Women Wing, Jammu and Kashmir National Conference, today declared open the Martyrs’ Memorial Prize Money Badminton Tournament at Champion Arena, Chowadhi, Jammu.
Gurvinder Singh, Manager, Reserve Bank of India, was the guest of honour on the occasion. He is also a senior national player from Jammu and Kashmir.
The tournament is being organised by High Toss Sports Club, Talab Tillo, in memory of martyrs under the supervision of Sat Pal Sharma, a retired Sports Authority of India badminton coach. Over 50 young badminton players are participating in the Under-13 and Under-17 boys’ and girls’ singles events in this three-day tournament.
Satwant Kaur Dogra complimented the organisers and highlighted the importance of sports in shaping personality, promoting discipline, teamwork, leadership and perseverance. She encouraged participants to focus on character-building, learn from failures, and uphold the true spirit of sportsmanship. Bakhtawar Singh, a veteran badminton player, is the Chief Referee of the tournament.
Among those present were Makrand Mehta, Sahil Bakshi, Sunil Bakshi, Sudhir Kumar (former member, J&K Sports Council), Sat Pal Sharma (President of the Club), Ashok Gupta (General Secretary and Treasurer), and Samir Vohra, along with parents of young upcoming shuttlers.
