Hockey J&K UT Men’s C’ship begins

JAMMU, Mar 24: After a gap of three years, Hockey J&K UT Men Hockey Championship commenced today at KK Hakku Hockey Stadium, Jammu, with 17 teams from across the Union Territory participating. The championship was inaugurated by Secretary J&K Sports Council, Nuhzat Gul.
Dr Taran Singh welcomed the chief guest and dignitaries, outlining Hockey J&K’s initiatives, including three sub-junior tournaments and district-level competitions. He added that teams are preparing for upcoming Sub-Junior Men and Women National Championships at Rajgir and Ranchi. Rajive Sharma presented the vote of thanks and pledged support for hockey development in the region.
Three matches were played today. In the first match, Jammu North defeated Bandipora by 12-0. Jotveer Singh and Kirandeep Singh scored 3 goals each, Mankiran and Gurpreet scored 2 goals each, while Rahul and Deepak added one goal each.
In the second match, Anantnag defeated Rajouri by 5-1. Dar Saini scored 3 goals, while Mbariz and Suzain scored one goal each. Harmeet scored the lone goal for Rajouri.
In the third match, Jammu South defeated Srinagar by 8-4. Surinder Singh and Karandeep Singh scored 3 goals each, and Manjeet Singh added 2 goals. For Srinagar, Rohan Preet Singh scored 2 goals, while Sheikh Salman and Varun Preet Singh scored one goal each.
Prominent attendees included Murti Gupta, Ravinder Singh, Kuldeep Handoo, BS Jaggi, and several Hockey J&K officials, coaches and parents. Tomorrow’s fixtures include Kupwara vs Ganderbal at 10:30 am, Jammu West vs Shopian at 12:00 noon and Budgam vs Kathua at 2:30 pm.
