JAMMU, Feb 20: The Department of Physical Education & Sports at Government SPMR College of Commerce organized and hosted a high-spirited Inter-College Karate Tournament on campus today. Principal Prof (Dr) Sunil Gupta was the chief guest, while Dr Vinod Bakshi, Physical Director of Cluster University of Jammu, attended as the guest of honour. The event was meticulously coordinated by Ravi Kumar, Physical Director of the college, ensuring professional conduct and athletic excellence throughout the competition.
Government SPMR College of Commerce emerged as the overall champion, securing 21 points. In a closely fought Men’s division, SPMR College edged past Government GGM Science College, which finished runner-up with 20 points. The tournament was officiated by Sandeep Bhagat, Bobby Kumar Baitha, Atul Narayan Singh, Prashant Rattan and Nandan Bali.
In the Women’s individual categories, gold medals were won by Kavyani Dogra (68 kg), Akanksha Raina (45 kg), Tannu Badyal (61 kg), Ashima Gupta (55 kg) and Ridham (50 kg), each delivering exceptional performances. Prof (Dr) Sunil Gupta lauded the athletes’ dedication, emphasizing the importance of sports in holistic education, while Dr Vinod Bakshi highlighted the tournament as a platform for nurturing talent at the national level. Among others present were Dr Chetna Gupta, Prof Shaji Khan, Prof Sanjeev Verma, Prof Anju Gotra, Neelam Chalotra and Bilal Ahmed.
