JAMMU, Feb 1: The Dr KD Open Chess Championship was held today in Jammu, attracting 432 participants. Organized by Dr KD Hospital in collaboration with the Jammu District Chess Association, the event was graced by Sports Minister and MLA Bahu, Vikram Randhawa.
Dr KD Singh and AJKCA President Meenal Gupta distributed cash prizes and trophies worth Rs 50,000. Atul Kumar Gupta, Chairman of the Planning and Development Commission of the All India Chess Federation, was also present.
Aarav Gupta won the championship, claiming Rs 15,000, followed by Adil Johnson (Rs 11,000), Parvez (Rs 5,100), Ravi Kumar (Rs 3,100) and Paras Sharma (Rs 2,100). Special awards went to Ahana Gupta (Best Woman), SP Sharma (Best Veteran), Rajyawardhan (Best U-11 Boy), Ameena Tarin (Best U-11 Girl), Pazhany Kohli (Best U-13 Boy), Aahana Mengi (Best U-13 Girl), Vaibhav Dwivedi (Best U-15 Boy), Izma Fatima Batt (Best U-15 Girl), Avyan Gupta (Best U-7 Boy), Hoor (Best U-7 Girl) and 4-year-old Nirvaan Chopra for notable performance.
