JAMMU, Jan 11: Jammu made history with the launch of the Platinum Girls Football League, the city’s first corporate-backed girls football league, marking a significant milestone for women’s football in the region.
The league features six teams-Sparc FC, Onyx FC, Platinum FC, Shivya A FC, Kaffberry FC and Phoenix FC-supported by leading business groups in Jammu. Each team has 10 players, including over 20 from Kashmir, 10 from Hiranagar, 5 from Kathua and the rest from Jammu city, showcasing wide regional participation.
League organizer Bhisham Batra said, “This league is about creating opportunity, visibility, and a professional structure for girls’ football in Jammu. Corporate support has made this vision possible.”
Matches are being held at the Home of Legends Turf, Digiana, with the final set for January 14. In the opening round, Sparc FC and Platinum FC drew 0-0, Onyx FC and Shivya A FC drew 1-1, while Phoenix FC defeated Kaffberry FC 4-1, with Tanzeel (Sonu) scoring a spectacular hat-trick. The league is being hailed as a landmark initiative to promote grassroots women’s football in Jammu & Kashmir.
