JAMMU, Aug 22: Outplaying their rivals convincingly in the summit clashes,   GGM Science College, Jammu and Government College for Women (GCW) Parade lifted the title trophies in the Inter-Collegiate Chess Tournament, which concluded here today.
Earlier, in the final of men’s section, GGM Science College drubbed SPMR College of Commerce with a good margin to win the title.
Aditya Sawhney of Science  College outplayed Taranjeet Singh; Akhil Singh of Science College outclassed Navjot Singh and Siddharth Maini of Science College lost to Rachit Gupta.
The match between Sukhdev Singh of Science College and Atul Singh of SPMR College ended in a draw.
In women’s section, GCW Parade got better of GDC Udhampur by (4-0) points to win the tournament. Versha Rani of Parade College beat Sheetal Sharma; Harsha Langeh of GCW Parade defeated Kritika Sharma; Navneet Kaur of GCW Parade prevailed over Priyanka Aithmia and Mansi Sachdeva of GCW Parade got better of Monika Thakur.
Dr Meenakshi Kilam, Director Internal Quality Assurance, University of Jammu was the chief guest on the valedictory function, who awarded trophies to the winners on the occasion, while Prof Dhian S Bhau, Director Sports and Physical Education presided over the function.
The matches were officiated by Sushil Kumar Sawhney, Ajit Singh and Maxin Singh, while P D Singh was the tournament in-charge.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were Dr Vinod Bakshi, Suman Lata, Vijay Laxmi (Physical Directors), Raj Kumar Bakshi, Ravish Vaid, Gagan Kumar, Vikas Karlopia and Jai Bharat.
