SRINAGAR, Oct 10: The Srinagar Open Tennis Championship 2025 kicked off at the Gindun Tennis Courts, Rajbagh, with 16 exciting matches setting the tone for a competitive tournament. The event is being organized by the District Lawn Tennis Association in collaboration with the Jammu and Kashmir Lawn Tennis Association and continues to be a key fixture in Kashmir’s tennis calendar.
The highlight of the opening day was the debut of 13-year-old Mohammad Qais in the senior circuit. Though he lost his opening match to veteran Gurmit Singh, Qais bounced back impressively to beat Irfan Bhat in a tense tie-breaker after the match was locked at 7-7. The Group ‘C’ standings were thrown wide open when Irfan Bhat later defeated Gurmit Singh.
In Group B, Dilbagh Singh, last year’s runner-up and Rouf Ahmad both secured wins over Shadab Mir, and will now face each other for a place in the knockout stage. Mir ended his singles campaign with a win over Uzair Ahmad. Group A saw Mir Jameel beat Bittu Singh, while in Group D, defending champion Inayat Jehangir stormed into the knockouts with three dominant wins.
In the doubles event, Sajad Bhat and Rouf Ahmad claimed two wins, defeating the pairs of Talat Ahmad-Tufail Bhat and Gurmit Singh-Shadab Mir. Mir Jameel and Danish beat Asif Nowsheri and Tahafuz Ilahi, while Dilbagh Singh and Inayat Jehangir also began their doubles campaign with a win over Talat and Tufail.
