JAMMU, Aug 8: The CSIR-Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (CSIR-IIIM), Jammu culminated the second Five-Day Skill Development Programme under the CSIR Aroma Mission Phase-III, aimed at empowering women through scientific training in aromatic crop cultivation, value addition, product development, and rural entrepreneurship.
Held from August 4 to 8, the programme trained 25 women participants from the Sakhi Saheli Self Help Group, Bakshi Kothe (Zone-Mandal). The training included technical sessions, live demonstrations of essential oil extraction and hands-on activities in aroma candle making, incense stick and dhoop preparation, fragrance blending, product packaging, and perfume formulation. Two days were dedicated to field training at CSIR Research Farm, Chatha, and three days to practical sessions at CSIR-IIIM Jammu.
Dr. Ritu Singh was the chief guest, while Dr. Zabeer Ahmed, Director, CSIR-IIIM and Dr. Suphla Gupta, Nodal Scientist, Aroma Mission were also present. Dr. Ritu Singh commended CSIR-IIIM for its role in promoting startups and entrepreneurship and guided participants on branding, market linkages and business opportunities in the aromatic sector. Dr. Zabeer Ahmed praised the participants’ enthusiasm and encouraged them to use their new skills for rural development and income generation.
Dr. Suphla Gupta explained the structure and objectives of the programme, while team members Dr. Rajendra Bhanwaria, Dr. Sabhajeet, Dr. V.P. Rahul and Dr. Siya Ram Meena supported its execution. The Aroma Mission project staff, including Dr. Jyotsna Sharma, Dr. Shifali Chib, Vanshika Bhagat, Neelisha Ambardar, Shiksha Sharma, Amulya Mansotra and Sohail Khan, played key roles in the programme’s success.
Certificates of participation were awarded to all attendees and the programme concluded with a mentorship session, reinforcing CSIR-IIIM Jammu’s commitment to women-led, science-based rural entrepreneurship.
