JAMMU, Aug 7: To celebrate National Javelin Day, the Jammu and Kashmir Amateur Athletics Association organized a UT-level Javelin Throw competition at Gulshan Ground, Jammu, drawing participation from across the region. Held to commemorate Neeraj Chopra’s Olympic gold medal win, the event aimed to promote javelin throw among the youth and scout emerging talent.
The competition saw enthusiastic participation from around 150 boys and girls across different age groups: Under-14, Under-16, Under-18, Under-20 and Open categories.
In the Under-14 Boys category, Shahid Akhter secured first place with a throw of 28.20 meters, followed by Mohd. Nafeer (26.00m) and Shahid Khan (25.71m). In the Under-14 Girls, Khushi clinched gold with a throw of 14.34 meters, followed by Asmanjabeen (9.27m) and Rajveer Kour (8.78m).
The Under-16 Boys category saw Krishna Saini take gold with 42.70 meters, followed by Antriksh Bhagat (34.87m) and Suryansh Malhotra (34.30m). Among Under-16 Girls, Anjali Verma led with 15.40 meters, followed by Gazalpreet Kour (12.44m) and Beonica Gupta (10.99m).
In the Under-18 Boys, Gaurav Sharma won gold with 49.90 meters, followed by Suraj Kumar (43.65m) and Digvijay Singh (30.80m). In the Girls section, Pavni Gupta led with 12.70 meters, followed by Akshra Parihar (12.10m) and Shevita Devi (11.60m).
In Under-20 Boys, Sulakshiya Singh claimed first place with 53.23 meters, followed by Aryan Katal (29.75m) and Sujal Singh (29.00m). Among Girls, Akshita Verma secured gold (11.90m), followed by Suman Rajput (10.30m) and Deepika Kishor (5.00m).
In the Open category, Prabjot Singh topped the boys with a throw of 40.13 meters, followed by Vansh Kumar (33.10m) and Ravi Kant (30.81m). In the Girls section, Shamshad Bano and Neha Devi secured the top two spots with 7.00 meters and 6.52 meters, respectively.
The event was held under the expert supervision and graced by senior officials, marking a successful and inspiring celebration of athletic excellence in J&K.
