KATHUA, Aug 6: Varun Choudhary, a youth from the rural village of Tarara in Block Barnoti of Kathua district, has brought pride to both his village and Indian Railways through his remarkable achievements in powerlifting.
Varun has secured a spot in the World RAW Powerlifting Federation Championship, scheduled to be held in the USA from November 21 to 23, where he will represent India on the international stage.
Currently serving as an Engineer with the Indian Railways at Ferozpur Mandal, Varun has managed to balance his professional responsibilities with his passion for powerlifting. With support from Indian Railways and experienced coaches, he continues to train rigorously despite a demanding schedule.
Coming from a sports-oriented family, Varun’s journey in powerlifting was inspired by his father, Vijay Singh, who, along with others in the village, has long promoted rural sports to encourage youth participation.
His journey includes participation in prestigious competitions such as the J&K State Powerlifting Championship, Inter-Railway Powerlifting Championship, Powerlifting India, Chandigarh State Championship, and most recently, the 15th RAW Powerlifting Federation National Championship held in Haryana, where he clinched a Gold Medal. His father expressed immense pride in Varun’s achievements and urged the youth to pursue sports for a healthier future. He also appealed to the J&K Government to strengthen sports infrastructure in rural areas to nurture grassroots talent.
