JAMMU, May 5: Outstanding sportspersons from Jammu and Kashmir raised serious concerns over the inordinate delay in the publication of the non-gazetted merit list under SO 12 and SO 412. The athletes, many of whom have brought laurels to the Union Territory, expressed deep frustration at being left in limbo despite a 12-year wait.
Addressing a press conference here today, the sportspersons revealed that while the recruitment rules for non-gazetted posts were finalized and officially published on October 4, 2024, the final merit list has yet to be issued. A total of 225 eligible candidates are affected by the delay, which they described as “bureaucratic indifference” towards their hard-earned achievements.
“The recruitment process for the non-gazetted posts is complete. All formalities are over, and even a provisional list was issued on July 19, 2024. But nearly a year later, we are still waiting for the final list and our appointments,” said Ajay Kumar, one of the sportsperson at the presser.
The sportspersons blamed the delay on the Government’s failure to finalize rules for ten gazetted posts – an entirely separate category – which they allege is being used as an excuse to withhold appointments in the non-gazetted cadre.
“It is unfair that 225 lives and careers are on hold because files for just ten gazetted posts are stuck in the Civil Secretariat,” Rohit Singh Jamwal, another sportsperson remarked. “We’ve waited for 12 years. How much longer does the system expect us to wait?”
Calling the situation a gross injustice, the athletes urged the Government to de-link the non-gazetted appointments from gazetted post procedures and publish the final list immediately. They appealed to the Lieutenant Governor’s administration to intervene and ensure long-overdue justice for J&K’s sports achievers.
