
VCC Tral enters final in Sikh Premier Cricket League

JAMMU, Feb 21: In the ongoing first Sikh Premier Cricket League at University of Jammu, Minister for Youth Services and Sports, Satish Sharma inaugurated today’s matches by playing a few balls and tossing the coin.
In semi-finals, batting first, VCC Tral scored a total of 135 runs. Gurmeet Singh top scored with 51 runs off 48 balls studded with 5 fours and one six while Sumit contributed brisk 39 runs off 20 balls with 3 fours and 2 sixes.
For Hari Singh Nalwa CC, Maninder and Kamalpreet took 2 wickets each, while skipper Kavi, Tegvansh and Gurdeep took one wicket each.
In reply, Hari Singh Nalwa CC managed to score 129 runs in 20 overs and lost the match by 6 runs.
Vernpal Singh (26) and Amit Pal (21) were main contributors. Kavi, Maninder and Rakinder contributed 14, 13 and 12 runs respectively.
For VCC Tral, Satbeer Singh, Sahil Singh and Sunny claimed 2 wickets each. Gurmeet was declared as player of the match.
In quarter-finals, Dashmesh Club defeated Janta Warriors by 61 runs. Batting first, Dashmesh Club scored a total of 170 runs.
Chamkor Singh top scored with 61 runs off 36 balls, studded with 7 fours and 2 sixes, while Kawal Preet contributed 39 runs with 2 massive sixes.
Manpreet Singh took 3 wickets for Janta Warriors while Hardeep bagged 2 wickets.
In reply, Janta Warriors were bundled out for 109 runs, thus losing the match by a margin of 61 runs. Navjot Singh (35) and Babneet Singh (23) were main contributors.
For Dashmesh Cricket Club, Kulvinder Singh captured 3 wickets by giving 12 runs in 3 overs, while Chamkor Singh bagged 2 wickets by giving 12 runs in his 2 overs. Chamkor Singh was declared as player of the match for his all-round show.
Dignitaries who graced the occasion included Director Physical Education and Sports University of Jammu, Daud Iqbal Baba; SP North, Vivek Shekhar and SSP Headquarter, Irshad Hussain Rather.
Ten teams from across J&K are taking part in the event which is being organized by Hari Singh Nalwa Cricket Club under the auspices of All J&K Sikh Coordination Committee.
Speaking on the occasion, Satish Sharma said let the sports be the domain of sportspersons only.
He said only sportspersons should run the sports associations and organisations to yield better results.
Emphasising Government’s commitment to promote genuine sports talent, Sharma ensured that no individual or group would be allowed to politicize sports.
Earlier in his welcome address, chairman All J&K Sikh Coordination Committee, Ajit Singh said objective of the tournament was to involve more and more youth in sports and allied activities to defeat drug culture.
