Simula enters semis, Dhruv shines again

JAMMU, Oct 7: Scripting a win in a thrilling contest against Khalsa Cricket Club, Simula Cricket Club entered the semifinals of the on going Jammu Tawi Premier T20 Cricket Tournament, being organized by Young Star Cricket Club, Jammu at MAS tadium, here.
Earlier, after taking 3 important wickets, skipper of Simula Club shone with bat and scored valuable 33 runs to guide his side to a much needed victory in a low scoring affair.
Batting first, Khalsa Cricket Club scored a paltry total of 102 runs in the stipulated 20 overs, losing 8 wickets in the process. Vicky Kumar top scored with 39 runs including 2 massive sixes, while Raju and Akshay contributed 16 and 11 runs to the total respectively. For Simula, Dhruv Mahajan scalped 3 wickets by conceding 16 runs in his 3 overs, while Vikram Singh bagged 2 and Sameer Khajuria one.
In reply, Simula Club reached the target on the last ball of the match as the lower-order batsman Deepak held his nerves in the pressure cooker scenario, when the team needed to score 9 runs in the last over with one wicket in hand. He managed to score required 2 runs after the last ball. However, it was sensible knock of 33 runs off 33 balls, studded with 4 delectable boundaries, which set the stage for Simula Club’s win. Vikram Singh (18) and Shashi Kumar (13) were the other contributors. For Khalsa Club, Mohit Sharma was the pick of the bowlers, who captured 3 wickets, while Vicky bagged 2 and Harpreet Singh one. Dhruv Mahajan was adjudged man of the match for his all-round performance.
In another match, Stadium XI Kathua drubbed Vijay Nagar Cricket Club by 7 wickets in an easy contest.
Batting first, Vijay Nagar Club scored 107 runs in the allotted overs. Raju, Ajay Rajput and Ankush Kotwal were the main contributors with 37, 19 and 16 runs to the total. For Stadium XI Kathua, Arvind and Ankush shared 3 wickets each.
Stadium XI, in reply scored the required runs by losing 3 wickets, thus won the match by 7 wickets. Prashant (31), Atul (27) and Bishu 24 were the main contributors. Vinod Kotwal took 2 wickets, while Ajay claimed one for Vijay Nagar Club. Prashant was adjudged man of the match.
The match was officiated by Rajinder Singh and Sandeep Manchanda as umpires, while Rakul Mattoo was the scorer.
Challenger Cricket Club will take on RCC Srinagar in the first match tomorrow, while the final match of Simula Budding Cricket Tournament will be held in the evening session.
