BANI (Kathua), June 8: Jai Garh Mata team of Himachal trounced Fathepur team in the finals and lifted the Nek Ram Memorial Cricket Tournament trophy, here today
Dr Rameshwar Singh, ZMO Koti Chandyar was the chief guest of the final match, while Keshav Manhas was the guest of honour.
It is pertinent to mention here that the aforesaid tournament is organized every year in the memory of Retired Head Master Late Nek Ram. This time the cricket tournament was organised in Ghull in Himachal Pradesh. Fifteen teams participated in this tournament and the final match was played between Jai Garh Mata team (Himachal) and Fathepur team.
Ashwani was declared as man of the series, while Harsh Thakur as best batsman, Herry as best bowler and Lirick Khatri as best wicket keeper.
Dr Rameshwar Singh presented the final prize worth Rs 10,000 along with the trophy to the winners. He appreciated the sportsmanship spirit displayed by the players during the matches.
He also lauded the efforts of the organizers of this tournament for paying the best homage to late Nek Ram besides promoting the sports culture in the hilly region of Himachal Pradesh and areas adjacent to it falling in J&K’s Kathua area.
The organizers of the event were Parvati Devi (Wife of late Nek Ram), Kuldeep Singh Thakur (Son) and Kulbhushan Singh Thakur (Son).
Dr Rameshwar highlighted the significance of sports in maintaining a healthy physique as well as healthy mind thus leading to the overall personality development of youth. He advised the youth of the region to make sports a routine activity in their life.
