JAMMU, May 1: KC Public School defeated Army Public School (APS) Damana convincingly to advance in Under-14 boys’ table tennis event of the Inter-School Tournament in the disciplines of Table Tennis, Badminton, Carrom and Chess, which got underway at Indoor Complex, MA Stadium, here today.
The Tournament was declared open by Director General Youth Services and Sports, Naveen Agarwal in an impressive and well attended function.
The Tournament is being organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports under the chairmanship of Ved Parkash, Deputy Director Youth Services and Sports and under the overall supervision of Tirath Ram, District Youth Services and Sports Officer, Jammu.
DG Sports was introduced with the participants of various disciplines on the occasion.
While speaking to certain media channel, Agarwal said that the Department of Youth Services and Sports would take various initiatives with regard to development of infrastructure in the State, besides organizing long duration coaching camps to help talented players fine-tune their skill and prepare for the competitions to be held at the higher levels.
Earlier, in table tennis Under-14 boys, KC Public School thrashed APS Damana in an easy contest by (3-0) sets, while in another match of this category, APS Damana got better of Model Academy, Jammu by the same margin.
In table tennis Under-17 boys, KC Public School defeated SOS Gole Gujral by three sets to nil (3-0).
Meanwhile, in badminton Under-14 boys, DPS trounced GD Goenka by (2-0), Maharishi Vidya Mandir prevailed upon St Xavier by (2-0), APS Nagrota drubbed Dewan Devi by (2-0), MIER outclassed Adarsh Niketan by (2-0) and DMN got better of Vidya Peeth by the same margin, while in badminton Under-17 boys, APS Miran Sahib outplayed KC International by (2-0), Dewan Devi defeated KC Gurukul by (2-0), Adarsh Niketan beat SRML by (2-0) and Oriental Academy got better of SD Tarapuri by the same margin.
In carrom Under-14 boys, GHS Old Satwari beat Adarsh Niketan, SOS defeated Maha Rishi Vidya Mandir, APS Nagrota defeated KC International and MHAC Nagbani outplayed St Xavier, while in carom Under-17 boys, Oriental School trounced HS Old Satwari, Maharishi Vidya Mandir outclassed APS Nagrota, SRML beat Shashtri Memorial and SRML defeated Maharishi Vidya Mandir.
In chess Under-14 boys Pool A, Shashwant of KV Sunjwan beat Kanav of APS Kaluchak and Azar Qazi of DPS drubbed Sohan Gupta of Jodhamal, while in Under-14 boys Pool B, Navdeep of DPS trounced Aditya Sharma of MIER and Aditya of APS Nagrota defeated Dewang of Jodhamal.
In chess Under-14 boys Pool C, Nikhil of SOS got better of Sachin Sharma of APS and Ujjwal Sharma of Adarsh Niketan prevailed over Ranjit of St Xavier, while in chess Under-14 boys Pool D, Varbhav Bhat of SOS beat Harshit Gupta of KC International, while Sumit of Maharishi Vidya Mandir beat Harkit Sharma of Adarsh Niketan.
The matches in various disciplines were officiated by a panel of experts drawn from the Department of Youth Services and Sports including Harcharan Singh, Sanjay Khajuria, Harpreet Bhalla, Vikram Jamwal, Ravish Vaid, Gourav Sharma, Rekha and Vishal Bharti.
The boys’ event will be continuing tomorrow, while the girls’ events will commence at the same venue from day after tomorrow.
