9 Archers to represent UT Ladakh in National Tournament

LEH, Sept 13: Nine Archers from Ladakh all set to represent UT Ladakh in the upcoming in the 40th NTPC Senior (Men & Women) National (Indian Round, Compound & Recurve) Archery Championship at TATA Nagar (Jamshedpur), Jharkhand from October 1-10. After getting affiliation with Association of India, Archery Association of Ladakh selected 9 Archers, 7 from Leh and 2 from Kargil district to represent UT Ladakh in senior Archery tournament. 95 Archers representing different Archer clubs in UT Ladakh participated to represent UT Ladakh and during the final round of selection a total of 30 archers from both Leh and Kargil participated during final trail and 9 Archers got selected.
Talking about the importance of Archery in Ladakh, MP, Ladakh, Jamyang Tsering Namgyal who is also the president of Archery Association of Ladakh expressing his happiness over Ladakhi Archers getting chance to participate in the National tournament said that Archery is an important sport in Ladakh having its own historical and spiritual value.
He said that the Association has been working tirelessly and because of which today youths are going to represent in the national championship. He said that with the constant effort, support, and talent of the young archers, Ladakh will also place its name in international matches.
He also informed about the registered body named ‘Sports Association of Ladakh’ which is formed to uplift and promote all kinds of sports in Ladakh. The Sports Association of Ladakh will act as an umbrella under which the Association of various sports will come and work for the overall development of sports in the Ladakh region.
Ravinder Kumar, Secretary, Youth Service, and Sports said that archery is one of the prioritized sports in Ladakh.
He informed about the provision of distribution Archery equipment in schools and Archery Association of Ladakh to groom interested and talented archers of Ladakh.
Archery Association of Ladakh General Secretary Councilor Lobzang Sherab highly appreciated the support of the UT administration and MP Ladakh to uplift the archery sports in Ladakh. He also added that Ladakh is getting ample of opportunities in various sports activities after UT status.
