JAMMU, May 4: Hockey J&K is organizing 5th Sub-Junior Hockey India National Championship at KK Hakku Astroturf Hockey Stadium from May 6 to May 17  under the aegis of Hockey India. The Championship is being organized in collaboration with J&K Sports Council, while the J&K Bank and HDFC Bank are the co-sponsors of the event.  Hakku Stadium, University OF Jammu and MA Stadium will be the venues of the Championship.
This was informed by SM Sahai, ADGP Armed and working president Hockey J&K while addressing to media persons at Hotel Asia, here today.
He said that this is for the first time Sub-Junior Hockey India National Championship is being organized in J&K, adding that earlier Senior Men Hockey National Championship was organized way back in 2000.
“Over 500 players and officials drawn from 20 States across the country are participating in the  Championship and the participating States include  J&K, Bhopal, Assam, Mumbai, Goa, Kerala, Rajasthan, Uttrakhand, Pudducherry, Gujarat, West Bengal, Tripura, Patiala, Himachal Pradesh, Bihar, Chandigarh and Vidharbha, etc,” Mr Sahai said.
Twenty two officials of Hockey India comprising Tournament Director, Umpire Manager, Judges and Technical officials besides one observer and two selectors will also be arriving for the said event.
Mr Sahai further said that Hockey J&K has arranged the boarding and lodging of the teams at Kalika Dhaam, Saraswati Dham, Vaishnavi Dham and Police Auditorium Gulshan Ground, Jammu, adding that the boarding and lodging for the Technical officials of Hockey India have been arranged at the Police GO Mess, Faculty Guest House Jammu University and PWD Guest House, Gandhi Nagar.
“A Control Room, Media Cell and Games Secretariat have also been established at the K.K Hakku Stadium for effective control and coordination and for dissemination of information to media and all concerned,” Mr Sahai informed.
The Opening Ceremony will be held on May 6 at 5 pm, wherein Imran Raza Ansari, Minister for Sports will be the chief guest, while the closing ceremony will be held on May 17, 2015 at 5 pm.
For smooth functioning of the Championship, all the teams have been divided in four pools A, B, C and D of 5 teams each.
Mr Sahai said that Hockey J&K has projected a Blue Astroturf for Hakku Stadium Jammu and one Astroturf at Polo Ground Srinagar which will help in enlisting J&K among the top venues for holding mega events of Hockey India.
Jammu Darshan will also be organized for the visiting teams and officials along with the officials of Hockey India, besides local site seeing, shall also include darshan of the Holy Shrine of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi.
