2-Day ‘Festival of Girls’, BBBP Cyclothon concludes

JAMMU, Feb 7: A two day festival organized by District Administration, Udhampur for mass participation in Girl Child campaign concluded today with colourful programmes organized at more than a dozen locations, here.
180 kilometres of Cycling Expedition by 22 members of Jammu Cycling Club and a district level conference on Girl Child concluded today. Entire Udhampur town was decorated and thousands of girls, especially students, and their parents and teachers organized street plays, cultural programmes where the cycling groups halted to a rousing reception.
Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Dr Pawan Kotwal accompanied by DC Udhampur Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, DC Kathua Romesh Kumar and senior officers of Health Department flagged off the cycling expedition from Jammu to Udhampur yesterday which held awareness camps at six locations enroute which were organised by various departments of Udhampur Administration.
A District Level Conference on Girl Child Education, Government Schemes for Girls, Scholarship schemes launched by administration, BBP, PC & PNDT Act and legal provisions, healthcare and gender sensitivity was organised at Udhampur which was chaired by DDC Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, officers of District Administration, State Health Society, Educational Institutions, NGOs, Business establishments, partner organisations, students, parents and teachers.
Apart from PowerPoint presentation on schemes and legal provisions, Elocution, quiz and debates,   a number of cultural programmes were presented by Fusion Group of GDC Udhampur and students from various institutions. DDC Udhampur highlighted the achievements of district administration under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) and Save the Girl Child Campaign.
Dr Choudhary led the group of 100 cyclists which included 22 cyclists from Jammu, for the cycling awareness drive across the town. DIO-NIC Anil Sharma and Mr Bunti of Cycling Association participated along with the group. The Jammu Cyclists completed more than 180 KM Cycling in 2 days for awareness on BBBP.
The  Cyclothon rally commenced from DC  Office Udhampur, which after passing through the main locations of  town i.e  Slathia chowk, Ramnagar chowk ,  Hospital road, Gole Market, Chabutra Bazaar etc, finally culminated at Mini Secretariat and was again flagged off for Jammu.
ADC A S Rana, CPO Rakesh Jamwal, ACD Joginder Rai, CMO Dr Chander Parkash and various district officers attended. PO DRDA Dr Jagdish Mehra organized the conference and Advocate Swatantra Dev Kotwal conducted the proceedings.
