JAMMU, Jan 28: First State Level Cricket Tournament for Chief Minister’s Cup, in the memory of Late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, being organized by Jammu and Kashmir State Sports Council in collaboration with Country Cricket Academy, Gharota, will begin from February 5, 2017 at the Academy ground, here.
This was announced by Vikrant Sharma, Director Country Cricket Academy while addressing media persons at Press Club, here today.
He was accompanied by Vivek Sharma, former Ranji Trophy player and organizing secretary of the event, Anil Khajuria, Working Committee Member JKCA, Rajan Singh, Cricket coach, besides Divisional Sports Officer, J&K State Sports Council, Rajan Sharma and Sports Officer Ravi Singh.
Mr Vikrant said that the competition will be a contest between top teams of the State for a glittering trophy and a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh for the winners and a trophy and cash prize of Rs 50,000 for the runners-up team.
He further said that the Minister for Sports, Moulvi Imran Raza Ansari will be the chief guest in the opening ceremony of the Tournament on February 5, 2017.
“The Tournament aims at providing standard cricket conditions that includes proper sized ground, natural grass turfs, pollution free environment and boarding and lodging facilities for sports learners. The conditions are at par with the National Cricket Venues, where First Class cricket is being played. Many State Level players, members of JKCA as well as BCCI nominees have expressed satisfaction about the cricket venue of CCA at Gharota, Jammu,” Mr Vikrant expressed.
He said that Secretary State Sports Council, Waheed-Ur-Rehman Para has been very supportive and determined to get the maximum benefits reach to the young masses and has stood in great support to this event under ‘Khelo India’ Scheme.
“The event is in tune with the ingrained policy of the present Government about development of the youth. The motto of the Tournament is to foster friendship among youth various shades of cultures across J&K and to uphold the spirit of social, moral and health consciousness of the Nation,” Vikrant maintained.
