JAMMU, Oct 29: 1st Inter Polytechnic Annual Sports Meet “Sportech 2018” was inaugurated at Government Polytechnic, Bikram Chowk by Ajeet Kumar Sahu, Secretary School and Technical Education.
Anoo Malhotra, Director, Technical Education, Er Arun Bangotra, Principal of the college along with various Principals of Polytechnics and other dignitaries were also present on the occasion.
The chief guest Ajeet Kumar Sahu, guest of honour Anoo Malhotra and other dignitaries took the salute of a well synchronized ‘March Past’ of the students of different participating Polytechnics and declared open the sports meet by releasing the balloons.
While speaking on the occasion, Ajeet Kumar Sahu said that such events will promote communal harmony among the masses and will engage youths and students in sports and help them not to derail from the mainstream, besides providing a professional platform to them to showcase their hidden skills like Khelo India.
Director Technical Education Anoo Malhotra said that this initiative will boost to budding players and will provide an opportunity to build cultural relationship between various students.
The welcome address was presented by Er. Arun Bangotra, Principal of the college who gave the detailed presentation of chronology of the events that will take place in this meet. He said that teams from Government Polytechnic Bikram Chowk Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Udhampur, Reasi, Doda, Kishtwar, Ramban and ASC Polytechnic will participate in various Inter-Polytechnic Sports Tournaments in the disciplines.
Band by students and drills were presented by students to mark the celebrations of the day. The participants exhibited great zeal and fervour to make the event a grand success.
The first match on inaugural Day was of volleyball tournament in which Government Polytechnic Udhampur defeated Government Polytechnic Samba in nail biting finish by 2-1 set and Government Polytechnic Doda defeated Government Polytechnic Ramban by 2-0 sets. In Table Tennis, Shivam from Government Polytechnic Jammu defeated Piyush Pandita of same college by 2-1 set. In Chess individual event, the round-1 was won by Minkal and Paras of GP Samba, Yahya Bashir, Harkit and Rahat of GP Jammu and Deepak of GP Reasi. In Badminton (Female category) Nancy of GP Jammu defeated Afreena of GPW Jammu by 16-11 and Tania of GP Jammu defeated Jyoti Sharma of GPW Jammu by 16-13.
The Organizing Committee of the Tournament are Er Inderjeet Singh, Guminderpreet Kour PEM and Toshi Devi PET. The event was coordinated by Er Jasdeep Kour, Lecturer.
Among others present on the occasion were Er Neelanjana Manwati, Principal Skill Mission, Er HA Bhardwaj, Principal Government Polytechnic Udhampur, Vinod Azad, Principal Government Polytechnic Poonch, Er G.M Bhat, Joint Director Technical Education, Er Anoop Sharma, Assistant Director, Technical Education, Er Rajesh Gupta, Superintendent Women ITI, Jammu, HODs of various department and other staff and students of the various Polytechnics of Jammu Division.
