JAMMU, Mar 21: 19th Athletic Championship, organised by J&K Amateur Athletics Association (JKAAA) and sponsored by J&K Sports Council (JKSC), culminated at University of Jammu Grounds, here today.
Principal Secretary Youth Services and Sports Alok Kumar was the chief guest during the valedictory function, whereas the Secretary JKSC, Nuzhat Gul, DG YSS, Saleem-Ul-Rehman and JKOA president, Prof Ashutosh Sharma were guests of honour.
While speaking on valedictory function, the chief guest said, “Athletics scene in J&K to be revolutionized with latest equipments.” He was impressed with the large participation and ever growing interest in Athletics, which is called as the mother of all games, and added that Athletics would get special attention and latest equipments to strengthen the game in entire Union Territory of J&K.
In men open (100 mts), Rohit, Dannish Yousuf and Faisal Rashid stood 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively, whereas in under-20, Vikas Sharma, Shubham Kumar and Shawnm Danieal remained 1st, 2nd and 3rd and in high jump under-14, top two positions were bagged by Aditya Chib and Lakshdeep besides in under-16, top three places were won by Amit Pal Singh, Sulakhay and Nikhil respectively besides in under-18, Akhil Manhas, Rinku Singh Tomar and Sovit Kumar bagged top three places while in under-20, Shahid Choudhary, Keshav Singh and Tahir Khurshid stood 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively, and in open category, Atul Sharma, Iftikar Ahmed and Ankit Singh won top three positions respectively.
In senior men relay (4×100 mts), Zubair Ahmed, Ankit Sharma, Danish Yousuf and Jai Kumar stood first, while Mohd Munee, Gourav Singh, Goldy Singh and Vishwamitar shared 2nd place and Ankush Magotra, Aman Sharma, Sourav Singh and Akhil Singh bagged 3rd place.
In women (10,000 mts), Reenu Bharti, Geetanjali Sharma and Gulnaz Kour stood 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively, whereas in 4×100 mts, Gurdev Kour, Narmita Katoch, Nisha Sharma and Gulnaz Kour stood first while Tanvi Kohli, Shivani Thakur, Kajal Sharma and Sunekha Kumari bagged 2nd place and 3rd place was clinched by Damini Sharma, Manya Sharma, Angel Dogra and Mehak Sharma.
Earlier, president of the Association, Sunil Mahajan presented a brief note of the three-days, whereas vote of thanks was presented by general secretary, Sharat Chander Singh.
The chief guest felicitated technical and other officials were Rajan Sharma (Boxing), Vikas Gupta (Judo), Ravinder Singh (Cycling), Dr Nitesh (Sports Medicine Specialist), Vijay Saraf (Wushu), Om Parkash (Cycling), Shiv Kumar Sharma, Ravi Salgotra (Cycling), Vinod Bhatia (Athletics), Sarwant Singh Gill (Athletics), Ajay Sharma (treasurer JKAAA) and Ravinder Singh (Athletics).
