JAMMU, Dec 21: The 4-days 13th J&K State Wushu Championship commenced at Indoor Hall, MA Stadium, here today.
Over 800 participants from 17 Districts are participating in the Championship. The District Associations participating in the championships include Srinagar, Budgam, Baramulla, Kupwara, Ganderbal, Anantnag, Shopian, Bandipora, Kargil,Leh, Rajouri, Poonch, Samba, Kathua, Udhampur, Reasi and Jammu.
The Championship was declared open by veteran sports administrator, Aushtosh Sharma, General Secretary J&K Olympic Association, while the function was presided over by Ranjeet Kalra, Vice Chairman, Sports Council Jammu.
Vijay Saraf, President Wushu Association of J&K, Jt. Secretary J&K State Sports Council, Jammu, Shiv Kumar Sharma and Chief Sports Officer, Abdul Qayoom were present on the occasion.
The dignitaries appreciated the efforts of the Wushu Association for promoting the Wushu in all regions of the State.
They congratulated the medalists of the Wushu at the International and National level and wished them best of luck for the forthcoming World Championship and Asian Games.
Speaking on the occasion Ranjeet Kalra lauded the efforts of Wushu association under India coach, Kuldeep Handoo for promoting the game. He also highlighted the initiatives being taken by the Council for promotion of sports especially the personal initiative by Chief Minister, who is also the President of State Sports Council.
The opening fight of the sub junior category in 30 kg was of teen sensation Tajamul Islam who defeated Shaftan hamid from Baramulla..
The president of the Wushu Association appealed J&K State Sports Council to provide Basic facilities to this medal winning sports discipline.
The vote of thanks was presented by Kuldeep Handoo, Wushu Coach of India.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were Sohit Sharma (Treasurer), Ajay Paul, Arun Singh, Lalit Singh, Ruchi, Ashi Jamwal, Usha Kher (DySP), Bhanu Partap Singh and Rajinder Singh.
