SRINAGAR, Dec 22: The 10th edition of State Level Baseball Championship, organised by Jammu and Kashmir Baseball Association under the auspices of Amateur Baseball Federation of India and sponsored by the Jammu and Kashmir State Sports Council concluded here today in Islamia College of Science and Commerce ground, here.
The Championship was played in open age category for both boys and girls in which Ganderbal boys team defeated host Srinagar whereas Baramulla girls defeated Ganderbal in a neck to neck contest.
In the first final played in girls section, Baramulla girls scored 6 homes in their first innings to which Ganderbal girls responded with 5 homes. In the second inning, Ganderbal managed to add 2 homes and Baramulla equalized with their seven homes added by Rubeena, but in the 3rd and final inning, Baramulla batters were bundled out for just 2 homes and finally Baramulla recorded a win by 8 homes to 7.
In the boys final, experienced Ganderbal side were given a hard time by host Srinagar team in the first innings but Ganderbal somehow managed to hold their nerves and made a remarkable impact on the 2nd and 3rd innings and scored a total of 7 homes. Srinagar team after scoring 5 homes in the first inning couldn’t carry that performance in the last two innings, thus were defeated by Ganderbal with a final score of 7- 5 homes to emerge the winners.
Speaking on the closing ceremony, chief guest, Prof (Dr.) G M Tibet Baqal, Principal ICSC emphasized J&K Baseball Association for the conduction of such a bigger event in a positive way. Prof. Baqal also extended his kind and cooperative support for all sports activities to be held in Islamia College in near future.
Director Physical Education Department ICSC, Altaf-ur-Rehman and Divisional Sports Officer Kashmir, J&K State Sports Council, Mushtaq Ahmad were the guests of honour.
Fida Hussain Fidvi, general secretary, JKBA and other dignitaries and renowned sports personalities were also present on the occasion.
The winners and runners-up teams were presented trophies and other prizes by the dignitaries on the occasion.
