POONCH, July 17: A Cricket Tournament has commenced in zones of District Poonch promoting Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. There were 880 players participating in the tournament in the preliminary round.
The tournament is being organized by District Administration Poonch in collaboration with District Youth Services and Sports Poonch. It is pertinent to mention here that martyrs and freedom fighters’ names are given to the teams.
An initiative first of its kind taken by Deputy Commissioner Poonch, Yasin M.Choudhary, the main aim of the tournament is to promote sports activity in the district and generate interest in the youth towards sports and to channelize their energy in a positive direction.
According to the Deputy Commissioner, the tournament will be held in all 11 zones.
On the opening day teams played the matches with great zeal and interest and the public in large witnessed the matches. The opening match was played between Zone Poonch and Shaheed Rajguru Cricket Club. The chief guest on the occasion was Advocate Sunil Sharma, Chairman Municipal Council Poonch.
