JAMMU, Oct 4: The Yonex-Sunrise All J&K Junior Ranking cum Selection Badminton Tournament kicked off at Badminton Hall, M.A. Stadium, here today. Organized by the Badminton Association of J&K in collaboration with the J&K Sports Council, the three-day event will conclude on October 6.
Dr. O.D. Sharma, Vice President of Badminton Association of India and Chairman of Badminton Association of J&K, inaugurated the tournament, which features around 100 players from across the Union Territory competing in Junior (U-19) Boys and Girls Singles, Doubles and Mixed Doubles.
In Boys Singles (U-19), Udyan defeated Amulya by 21-11, 21-17; Raghav Magotra (Samba) beat Samaksh (Udhampur) by 21-19, 21-16; and Rehan (Srinagar) won against Toufiq Khan (Rajouri) by 22-11, 21-14. In Girls Singles (U-19), Diamond defeated Zinnia (Srinagar) by 21-12, 21-16; Skiedeep beat Kulnaz (Udhampur) by 21-14, 21-16; and Snowy Goswami triumphed over Trisha (Udhampur) by 22-12, 21-14. In Girls Doubles (U-19), Yashleen and Shreya defeated Zinnia and Bushra (Srinagar).
SAI coaches Touseef Ahmed and Vikram Saini are assisting the organizers. This tournament is the main selection event for the J&K team for the Junior National Badminton Championships at Itanagar in November.
