KATHUA, Mar 5: As part of the ongoing Women’s Week campaign celebrating International Women’s Day, the District Administration Kathua organised a Sports Day across the district, witnessing enthusiastic participation from women and girls of different age groups.
At the district headquarters, several sporting events were conducted at the Sports Stadium Kathua and Kathua Indoor Sports Complex. Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Sharma presided over the programme and appreciated the large turnout of participants. Among those present were (CPO) Ranjeet Thakur , (DSWO) Varun Chaudhary and (DYSSO) Sunil Singh Sambyal.
The Deputy Commissioner said the week-long campaign aims to celebrate the achievements and resilience of women while encouraging them to actively participate in social, cultural and sporting activities. He added that such initiatives help build confidence, leadership and a spirit of healthy competition among women.
On the occasion, a cricket match between Kathua and Marheen teams was played, while competitions in tug of war, volleyball, badminton, table tennis, judo and taekwondo were also organised.
Tehsildar Aana Jamwal interacted with the participants and encouraged young girls to adopt sports for discipline, teamwork and overall well-being. Similar events were also held at sub-division level across the district.
