DODA, Jan 21: In a bid to promote women empowerment and provide a constructive platform to channel the energy of women youth, Doda Police organised the grand finale of the T-20 Women’s Cricket Tournament under the Civic Action Programme (CAP) 2025–26 at the Sports Stadium, Doda.
The closing ceremony was graced by Deputy Commissioner Doda, Harvinder Singh and Senior Superintendent of Police, Doda, Sandeep Mehta, as chief guests. The tournament was organised under the overall supervision of ASP Headquarters Doda, Mohd Aslam, who also acted as the Nodal Officer for the event. Senior officers including DySP Headquarters Doda and DySP DAR Doda, officials of the police department and civil administration, civil society members and media representatives were also present.
Six women teams from across the district participated in the tournament, which was played on a league-cum-knockout basis. The final match was contested between Green Champs Doda and Dronacharya Cricket Academy Doda, with Dronacharya Cricket Academy emerging winners. The champions were awarded a trophy along with a cash prize of Rs 25,000, while the runners-up received Rs 15,000. Participation certificates were distributed among all players.
DC Harvinder Singh lauded the enthusiasm and discipline shown by the participants, stating that such tournaments celebrate talent, determination and the growing role of women in sports. SSP Sandeep Mehta reiterated the police’s commitment to youth engagement, adding that such initiatives help identify sporting talent and steer youth away from social evils.
