SAMBA, Dec 23: The J&K UT Strength Lifting Championship, organized by the J&K Association concluded at the International Challenge Champion Gym in Vijaypur. The two-day event featured 60 participants who showcased their strength and skills across various weight categories. District Samba emerged as the winner, while Jammu secured the runners-up position.
Captain Kulbir Singh, a veteran weightlifter, graced the event as the chief guest and distributed medals to the winners. He praised the Government’s initiatives to promote sports, highlighting the development of new stadiums and competitions that have created new opportunities for youth engagement. He also shared his experiences from the army, where he had worked alongside renowned strength athletes. Captain Singh assured his continued support for the promotion of strength lifting and offered national medallists the opportunity to use the gym’s facilities free of charge for the next two years.
The championship was inaugurated by Rakesh Kumar, an International Strength Lifting champion and three-time National champion, who emphasized the significance of such events in nurturing talent.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Ashok Singh, former Division Sports Officer. Gurpreet Kaur was named Champion of Champions, who dedicated her victory to her parents and coach, Naman Deep Singh.
