University of Ladakh’s Kargil Campus hosts Inter-College Sports & Youth Fest

KARGIL, May 3: The University of Ladakh’s Kargil Campus inaugurated a three-day Inter-College Sports Meet-cum-Youth Fest, opened by Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Saket Kushwaha. Organized by the Department of Physical Education, the fest saw enthusiastic participation from colleges across Ladakh including GDC Kargil, Drass, Sankoo, Khaltsi, Zanskar, Nubra, EJM College Leh and University’s Leh Campus.
Prof. Kushwaha emphasized sports as vital to education and pledged to make the event an annual tradition, announcing the inclusion of horse polo in future editions. Registrar Nawang Tundup, LAHDC Councilor Sajjad Khan and Dr. Mehboob Ali, among others, addressed the gathering, highlighting the role of sports in character building and unity.
A symbolic drone-led inauguration and oath-taking ceremony set the tone, followed by the opening handball match where EJM College Leh defeated Leh Campus. Coaches Bakir Ali, Mustafa Kamal and others were felicitated. Mohd. Javaid was honoured for his selection as a national volleyball coach.
The fest, featuring archery, handball, and cultural programs, continues to promote athleticism, cultural pride, and camaraderie among Ladakh’s youth.
