JAMMU, Apr 26: Cultural heritage is the legacy of cultural property and attributes of a society inherited from the past. To raise awareness about the history of Jammu, DBN Amarvilla took an initiative to make the students aware of the rich heritage and culture of Jammu by starting a talk show series.
The school invited Ajay Khajuria (Retd) Bureaucrat, as the first guest speaker of the talk show series ‘The Oratory Odyssey of DBN’. Khajuria is qualified in advanced professional studies from University of Edinburgh, UK. He is also a PG in Architectural Conservation and Historic Preservation from IIT Kharagpur. He also worked as Director Jammu from 2005-2008, and served as Deputy Commissioner Udhampur from 2008-2010.
Dr Vikas Padha, a Senior Consultant Orthopaedics and Joint Replacement at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi, Narayana Hospital, Katra was a special invitee on the occasion. More than 150 students of senior classes witnessed the first episode of the Talk Show series in the school auditorium.
Ajay Khajuria, through his PPT, gave a brief overview about our cultural heritage and its types viz; Tangible Cultural Heritage, Intangible Cultural Heritage, and Natural Heritage. He further illustrated that Jammu’s Tangible Heritage includes Historical Monuments & Institutions, Archaeological Excavations, Masterpieces of Art & Architecture, and other Artefacts.
About Dewan BadrinathVidya Mandir schools, he spoke about how the school is over 60 years old and is an important part of Jammu history; as it was first established in Eminabad, Pakistan and later shifted to Jammu after partition.
He even explained in detail about the Jammu’s Intangible Heritage which covered Fairs and Festivals; Folk Dances and Songs; Traditions, Oral History, Social Values, Apparel and Rituals, Knowledge, Language and Skills including Culinary Skills, Attitudes including Valour and Martial Skills and also gave light on Jammu’s natural heritage.
The guest lecture by Ajay Khajuria left the students spell bound and amazed to know about the culture, traditions and famous monuments of Jammu region. Principal Ranju Malhotra addressed the students stating that the session aims at connecting the generation with the richness of the cultural heritage of Jammu that has been inherited from previous generations and now preserving it for the generations to come.
