Team Championship: Gujarat, WB emerge winners in women category

SRINAGAR, Apr 18: Gujarat and West Bengal (WB) emerged winners in the women category of the Team Championship, being organized during the ongoing 20th J&K Bank National Veterans Table Tennis Championship at Sher-e-Kashmir Indoor Sports complex, here.
In Women Team Championship (above 40), Gujarat-A outplayed Maharashtra-A by 3-1 sets and emerged winner. Earlier, in the first semis, Gujarat-A registered 3-1 sets victory over Madhya Pradesh-A, whereas, in the second semifinal, Maharashtra-A thrashed West Bengal by straight 3-0 sets.
In Women Team Championship (above 50), West Bengal trounced Karnataka by straight 3-0 sets and emerged winner. Earlier, in the first semifinal, West Bengal thrashed Maharashtra-A by 3-0 sets, whereas, in the second semis, Karnataka registered 3-1 sets victory over Maharashtra-B.
In Men Team Championship (above 40), Reserve Bank of India (RBI) thrashed Punjab by 3-2 sets and emerged winner. Earlier, in the first semis, Reserve Bank of India (RBI) trounced Karnataka by 3-1 sets, whereas, in the second semifinal, Punjab routed Maharashtra-B by straight 3-0 sets.
In Men Team Championship (above 50), Punjab thrashed Maharashtra-A by straight 3-0 sets and lifted the title. Earlier, in the first semifinal, Maharashtra-A outplayed Tamil Nadu-A by 3-0 sets, while in the second semis, Punjab crushed Gujarat-A by 3-1 sets.
In Men Team Championship (above 60), Tamil Nadu routed Maharashtra-A by 3-1 sets and emerged winner. Earlier, in the first semis, Maharashtra-A trounced West Bengal by 3-0 sets, whereas, in the second semis, Tamil Nadu thrashed Maharashtra-B by straight 3-0 sets.
In Men Team Championship (above 65), Tamil Nadu crushed Andhra Pradesh-A by 3-2 sets and emerged winner. Earlier, in the first semis, Andhra Pradesh registered win over Gujarat by 3-1 sets, whereas, in the second semifinal, Tamil Nadu thrashed Maharashtra by 3-2 sets.
During prize distribution function, TK Nair, Advisor to Prime Minister was the chief guest, who awarded the winners, in presence of Randeep Dutta, DIG, CRPF, Srinagar. Besides, officials of State Sports Council and Table Tennis Federation of India were also present.
Among others present were Satish Gupta, Sanjay Gupta, Ranjan Sharma, Sheetal Gandotra, Renuka Aima and Anita Sadhotra.
