JAMMU, Nov 7: Jammu is set to witness a spectacular celebration of fitness, unity, and national pride as over 6,000 participants register for the first-ever Jammu BSF Marathon on November 9. The event will be flagged off by BSF Director General Daljit Singh Chawdhary, with Bollywood actor Suniel Shetty and J&K’s acclaimed para-archer Rakesh Kumar attending the opening and closing ceremonies.
The marathon will feature four categories – full marathon (42 km), half marathon (21 km), 10 km run and a 5 km ‘run for fun,’ open to all. Cash prizes of Rs 1.50 lakh, Rs 75,000, and Rs 50,000 will be awarded for the full, half, and 10 km races, respectively. Six international participants have also registered for the event.
Alongside the marathon, a contingent of 60 BSF personnel on motorcycles will flag off from Jammu and traverse the Indo-Pakistan border areas of J&K, Punjab, and Rajasthan before reaching Bhuj, Gujarat, on November 19 to participate in the BSF’s 60th Raising Day celebrations on November 21.
IG BSF Jammu Frontier, Shashank Anand, highlighted that the marathon encourages fitness, discipline, and community bonding, especially among youth from border villages, with over 1,600 youngsters registered. The 10 km run has the highest participation at 38 percent, followed by the half marathon at 33 percent.
Suniel Shetty conveyed his message to participants: “Run with heart and courage, and make India proud. The BSF inspires not only at borders but through events that unite people.”
