JAMMU, Jan 5: Drawing the match against young Meenal Gupta on the top board game and securing 4.5 points, out of 5, Sunil Grover clinched the title trophy of the Jammu Division Senior Chess Tournament, which concluded at Hotel Nek Below Gummat, here today.
Meenal Gupta scored 4 points to win second spot, while Pranav Sharma defeated Ravi Sharma of Kathua to clinch 3rd position in the Tournament. Maxim Singh, employee of Jammu University got better of Rohit Bhardwaj of Udhampur to secure fourth position, while 5th , 6th and 7th position went to Arvindu, Soham Kamotra and Rohit Bhardwaj respectively.
11-year old Meenal, who claimed second position and 9-year old Soham Kamotra, who secured 6th position were the star performers of the Tournament.
The prizes were distributed among the winners by Atul Kumar, Baldev Raj, Rakesh Gupta, Taranveer Singh Gujral and Rakesh Sadhotra, while Anil Kotwal was the Chief Arbiter for this event.
Top seven players of this Tournament will participate in J&K State Chess Championship to be conducted next month.
The 2-day Tournament was organized by All J&K Chess Association, under the supervision of Atul Kumar and Baldev Raj.
