JAMMU, Dec 4: In a significant development for shooting sports in Jammu & Kashmir, SS Sodhi, President of the Jammu & Kashmir Rifle Association (JKRA), has been elected to the Board of Governing Members of the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI). The announcement came after the declaration of office-bearer election results in Mohali.
The elections were held under the supervision of Justice Nirmaljit Kaur (Retd.), who served as the Returning Officer. The new leadership marks the beginning of Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo’s first full four-year term as NRAI President. Pawan Singh was elected unopposed as Secretary General, further strengthening the Federation’s top administrative structure.
Singh Deo, in his remarks, highlighted the unprecedented rise of Indian shooting in recent years, vowing to “leave no stone unturned” in advancing the sport and maximising athlete potential. Secretary General Pawan Singh emphasised leveraging AI, technology and performance data to identify emerging shooters nationwide, alongside training coaches and athletes for long-term career development.
In the electoral contests, Amit Sanghi (Telangana) was elected Senior Vice President, while Kanwar Sultan Singh and Sushma Singh secured posts as Vice Presidents in the 15-member Executive Committee. Olympic medallist Gagan Narang, along with Kunti Malik, Zorawar Singh Sandhu and Elavenil Valarivan, will represent sportspersons on the EC.
Sodhi thanked the Lieutenant Governor of J&K, Sports Council, Sports Ministry, Dilbag Singh (Founder and chief patron JKRA), JKRA members, shooters and coaches for their support, reaffirming his commitment to strengthening shooting sports in India.
