JAMMU, Sept 2: Outplaying their rivals convincingly in the semifinal clashes, District Srinagar and District Udhampur made it to the finals of the Under-19 boys badminton tournament and will lock horns with each other at BSF School Paloura, here tomorrow.
The State Level Inter-District tournament in the sports disciplines of badminton and chess Under-19 boys and girls is being organised by the Department of Youth Services and Sports as a part of Annual Calendar of Activities.
Earlier, in 1st semifinal, Srinagar beat Kargil by 2-0. In singles, Ishan beat Mohd Alyas by 21-9, 21-8, while in doubles, Ishan and Sarib of Srinagar got better of Mohd Alyas and Salim Ahmed of Kargil by 21-9,21-8.
In 2nd semifinal, Udhampur outplayed Jammu by 2-1. In singles, Bhaveshwer of Jammu beat Dhanajay of Udhampur by 21-16,20-22, 21-13, while in doubles, Dhananjay and Vikram of Udhampur beat Bhaveshwer and Sachin of Jammu by 21-13,21-11. In another singles event, Vikram of Udhampur drubbed Sachin of Jammu by 21-7, 21-6.
Meanwhile in girls section, Kathua beat Jammu by 2-0. In singles, Shikha of Kathua beat Anjum of Jammu by 21-4,21-10 and in doubles, Shikha and Durga of Kathua beat Anjum and Tahira of Jammu 21-7,21-11, while in another semifinal, Srinagar beat Udhampur by 2-1. In singles, Asama of Srinagar beat Rahat of Udhampur by 21-13,21-9, while in doubles, Anchal and Rahat of Udhampur beat Intzar and Zahira of Srinagar by 21-14,21-19 and in second singles, Intzar of Srinagar beat Anchal of Udhampur by 21-16,15-21,21-19.
In chess Under-19 boys, Shivinder Singh of Jammu beat Aditya of Jammu, Varinder of Jammu got better of Soham Gupta of Jammu and Amit Sharma of Kathua beat Kanav Gupta of Jammu, while in girls section, Kotwal of Jammu beat Navneet Kour of Kathua.
