Srinagar boys, Anantnag girls win baseball titles

SRINAGAR, Nov 17: The 8th State Baseball Championship being organised by Jammu and Kashmir Baseball Association and sponsored by the Jammu and Kashmir State Sports Council concluded at Islamia College of Science and Commerce Grounds, here today.
The Championship was played in open age category for both boys and girls in which Srinagar boys team defeated Govt College of Physical Education, Ganderbal, while Srinagar girls team lost to formidable Anantnag team.
In girls final, Srinagar gained 1 home in their first innings, while Anantnag girls responded with a 2 homes to win the title. In the second innings, Srinagar could manage 2 homes and Anantnag equalized through Rubia, but in the 3rd and final innings, Srinagar batters were bundled out on just one home, while Anantnag
girls took charge over and successfully recorded a title win by scoring 2 homes in quick time.
In the boys final, experienced Srinagar side were given a hard time by Physical Education College team in the first innings but Srinagar somehow managed to hold their nerves and made a remarkable impact on the 2nd and 3rd inning and scored a total of 8 homes. COPE team after scoring 4 home runs in the first inning couldn’t carry that passion in the last two innings, thus were defeated by Srinagar with a final score of 8-4.
Rubia Syed from Anantnag girls team was awarded as the best female player, while in boys category, Shahnawaz from Srinagar boys was declared best player.
Speaking on the closing ceremony, chief guest Prof ( Dr ) Mohammad Aslam Baba Principal, Islamia College, Srinagar stressed upon the Association to conduct the event in future also.
Director Physical Education Department ICSC, Altaf-ur-Rehman, Manager J&K State Sports Council Mushtaq Ahmad, Member JKSSC  Fayaz Ahmad and Bilqees Mir, Fida Hussain Fidvi, general secretary JKBA and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
