ANANTNAG, Oct 28: Describing sports as a vital element in the overall personality development and growth of youth, the Minister of State for PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control, Forest and Animal Husbandry, Abdul Majeed Padder today asked youth to actively participate in various sports activities of their choice.
The Minister said this while addressing the concluding and prize distribution ceremony at the South Kashmir Sports Festival organized by the J&K Police at Sports Stadium, Mattan Anantnag.
The Minister said that sports festivals like these provide the much needed platform to the budding players to exhibit their potential and talent. He said such events also boost the sports passion and spirit among youth.
Mr. Padder said that present Government under the leadership of Chief Minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed is committed to upgrade the sports infrastructure and revitalize sports activities across the State. He said Government has made a new beginning by restructuring the State Sports Council by giving representation to persons who have excelled in various sporting disciplines and several measures are underway to provide all the basic sports facilities to the States’ youth.
Complimenting the State police for organizing such an event, Mr. Padder said that events like South Sports Festival help in bridging the gap between police and public and stressed for organizing events like these every year in other parts of the State also.
Later, the Minister distributed medals and certificates among the teams and players who participated in the month long sports fest which was inaugurated by Chief Minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed on September 13, 2015.
In the sports festival more than 2500 players from 5 districts of South Kashmir participated in 5 different genres of sports including Cricket, Football, Volleyball, Badminton and Kho Kho.
Nasheman Football Club Anantnag got the first prize in Football, Shama Cricket Club Shopian got the first prize in Cricket, while Government Girls Higher Secondary School Pulwama got the first prize in Badminton and Bogund Kulgam came out winners in Volleyball. Final match of Kho Kho which was played on the concluding day was won by Kulgam.
Among others, DIG South Kashmir, Nitish Kumar, SSP Anantnag, SSP Kulgam, SSP Awantipora, SSP Pulwama, SSP Shopian, DFO Anantnag and other officials of the district administration besides large gathering of people, students and participants were present on the occasion.
