JAMMU, Dec 28: Surinder Singh Sodhi, Member of the Governing Body of the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) and President of the Jammu & Kashmir Rifle Association, today called on Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha at Lok Bhavan and held detailed discussions on the development of shooting sports in Union Territory.
During the meeting, Lieutenant Governor reiterated UT administration’s strong commitment to promoting sports as a key instrument for youth empowerment, discipline and nation-building. He reaffirmed the Government’s resolve to create world-class sports infrastructure and provide sustained institutional support to athletes across Jammu & Kashmir.
Sodhi expressed gratitude to the Lieutenant Governor for his visionary leadership and encouragement to sportspersons and sports bodies. He informed the LG about his recent unopposed election to Governing Body of the NRAI, marking the first-ever representation of Jammu & Kashmir in the apex national shooting sports body. The Lieutenant Governor congratulated Sodhi and observed that the representation would further strengthen J&K’s presence at the national level.
The discussion focused on the rapid growth of shooting sports in the UT, particularly the increasing participation of young shooters and their impressive performances at state, national and international events. Sodhi highlighted the need for advanced training infrastructure and proposed the establishment of a 50-metre shooting range in Jammu or Kashmir, allocation of dedicated office space for the J&K Rifle Association and hosting of national-level shooting competitions in the UT.
The Lieutenant Governor welcomed the proposals and noted that these initiatives would significantly strengthen high-performance training and help position Jammu & Kashmir as a major shooting sports destination in the coming years.
